Set in the years following the 2nd Punic War along the coasts of North Africa, “Lost Souls” is a fast paced, dark, visceral, action/adventure novel of 90,000 words that affords the reader a realistic depiction of the era.
Borus, a displaced Gallic mercenary who discovers a talent for assassination, has just concluded his service following the defeat of Hannibal Barca’s army at Zama. Alone, dangerous, and far from home he crosses paths with the beautiful Greek woman Apollonia, and together their fates become entwined with treacherous Mauritanian pirates and the long arm of Roman justice, embodied by the vengeful senator Iunius Velina Vetus.
Conflicting themes of trust, betrayal, introspect, and self-sacrifice converge in this quest for survival and redemption. Juxtaposed to historically accurate cultures, equipment, events, and pantheons, a palate of supernatural motifs are vividly present including black magic, possessed cannibals, and the presence of a powerful demon.
