golf: Davis, Oosthuizen share Houston lead

Brian Davis shot a 65 in his second round yesterday and shared the lead at 11-under-par with Louis Oosthuizen at the rain-delayed Houston Open. Phil Mickelson is two back at 9-under-par. The second round was suspended because of darkness with 70 players still on the course.

John Daly had five birdies and an eagle for a 5-under 67, finishing two shots off the leaders at the Sicilian Open. He trailed six players, including first-round leader Peter Lawrie, who shot a 72.

In Rancho Mirage, Calif., top-ranked Yani Tseng shot her second straight 68 at the Kraft Nabisco Championship, taking a one-stroke lead over Haeji Kang after the second round.

hoops: Huskies out of ’13 Big East tourney

Big East presidents have agreed on a policy that would bar Connecticut’s men’s basketball team from next season’s conference tournament because the Huskies haven’t qualified academically for the 2013 NCAA Tournament. A spokesman confirmed Big East presidents agreed in principal to the policy March 7 in New York.

Five former UConn women’s basketball players — Sue Bird, Diana Taurasi, Swin Cash, Maya Moore and Tina Charles — have been named to the U.S. Olympic team. UConn’s Geno Auriemma is the coach.

Tray Woodall scored 17 points and Pitt beat visiting Washington State 71-65 to win the CBI title.

In Gainesville, Fla., Florida guard Erving Walker has been charged with stealing a $3 taco and running from police.

Walker, a senior who ranks first in school history in assists, was arrested and given a notice to appear in court early yesterday. He was charged with petty theft and resisting an officer without violence, both misdemeanors. He was not taken to jail.

nfl: Leaf arrested on multiple charges

Authorities said former NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf , whom the Chargers picked after the Colts selected Peyton Manning with the first pick in 1998, has been arrested in his hometown of Great Falls, Mont. on burglary and drug possession charges.
