0241_Bondi Sculpture by the Sea 2009
Re-uploaded as whole set accidentally deleted by flickr?! These are the best 116 shots from the 2009 Bondi Sculpture by the Sea…I had originally put all artists (won't have time to put these back now) on the shots and some had 1000s of views annoyingly :( Still here they are again in all their glory. Looking forward to 2011 sculptures in a few weeks! These are mostly Canon 5D2 with 16-35mm lens I recall.

After taking over as the quarterback during Sunday's game against San Diego, Tim Tebow of the Denver Broncos faced what would almost surely be the final play of the game. With his team down to the Chargers' 30-yard line trailing by five points with one second left, he heaved the ball into the end zone hoping for a miracle. It wasn't to be.

Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow delivers a pass during Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers.
But even as the Broncos fell to 1-4, Tebow's near-comeback in front of the hometown fans added heat to one of the most rancorous debates in the NFL: Whether Tebow should be the starting quarterback for the Broncos and, more broadly, whether this hugely popular athlete has the elite mix of skills one needs to be an NFL quarterback in the first place.
The Broncos brass seem to be coming around. "I think Tim Tebow sparked the team today," head coach John Fox said after the game. He didn't name Tebow the starter, but added that the quarterback position would be "up for discussion."
The fans are pretty much there already. Tebow, who came to prominence at Florida—where he led the Gators to two national titles and won the Heisman trophy—is about as popular as a football player can be.
NFL Podcast
The Hard Count: Tim Tebow, Starter
Not only did he win at a big school with lots of alumni, he cultivated a following among fellow Christians, who appreciate his outspokenness on matters of faith. Despite his limited success since the Broncos made him the No. 25 pick in the 2010 NFL draft, his jersey is a huge seller and fans have taken to chanting his name when current starter Kyle Orton struggles.
The good news for Tebow fans is that their hero didn't play badly.
Put in in the second half after the Broncos fell behind 23-10 at halftime, Tebow ran for a touchdown and threw for another, bringing the Broncos within six points. He ran for 38 yards on six carries and completed 4 of 10 passes for 79 yards and a touchdown. Tebow supporters trumpeted his 7.9 yards per passing play, a number that's often a fair measure of a quarterback's ability, and his 6.3 yards per carry, which is better than any starting running back in the NFL. But a close review of the tape suggests that his performance won't set many questions to rest.
One of the knocks on Tebow is that his throwing arm, and throwing motion, aren't up to NFL standards. Tebow's touchdown pass was a short screen over the middle to Knowshon Moreno that, by any standard, was the kind of pass a Pop Warner quarterback should be expected to make. Because Moreno ran 28 yards after the catch, the play accounted for 35% of Tebow's total passing yards.
The rest of those yards came on two pass plays on the final drive when the Chargers' defenders were hanging back and giving him the short middle of the field. The first of those last-minute throws was a 20-yard pass to Brandon Lloyd that was originally called incomplete, but later was ruled a completion upon review. On the bright side, Tebow made the right read on the play. The Chargers defense played conservatively, staying behind Denver's receivers and leaving Lloyd open underneath. Even though the Chargers had only three pass rushers—and Tebow had five seconds to let go of the ball—he made the throw awkwardly while leaning slightly back and lifting his left foot off the ground. The ball sailed above and behind Lloyd, forcing him to make a one-handed grab as he fell. It was a brilliant catch on a poorly thrown ball.
The second throw went for 31 yards to Daniel Fells. Again, the Chargers sent just three pass rushers and played so far back they left the middle of the field wide open. Tebow's throw took a full seven seconds—an eternity in the NFL. Because the catch was made in the middle of the field, the clock couldn't be stopped. It also looked as if another receiver, Matthew Willis, was open on the right sideline. Had Tebow found him, it would have given the Broncos a few extra plays to try to score.
More concerning for the Broncos are the routine throws Tebow missed. One pass in particular stands out: With 11:49 left in the game, the Broncos had a chance to sustain a drive and march down the field. After Tebow scrambled for five yards, the Broncos faced a third down with a manageable four yards to go. The Chargers gave Tebow an easy defensive look. They lined up in a base 4-3 (four down linemen and three linebackers) and didn't do anything complicated with their pass rush.
Mike Right
Tebow's blockers gave him plenty of time, and he bought some more by rolling out to his left. Because he's left-handed, this should have made it easy for him to make a dump-off pass to Willis, who was open just beyond the first-down marker. Unfortunately, The ball was way off target and the Broncos were forced to punt.
With 3:15 left in the third quarter, Tebow could have created a chance for the Broncos to convert an important third down On third and seven.
Tebow took the snap out of the shotgun. Broncos tight end Daniel Fells helped get a partial block on Chargers defensive end Shaun Phillips, then darted out to the flat. With the Chargers backed up deep to protect against the pass, Fells was wide open and had the right side of the field almost to himself.
Had Tebow thrown him the ball, the 6-foot-4, 252-pound Fells would have been left with one man to beat: cornerback Dante Hughes, who is six inches shorter and 60 pounds lighter. The play almost surely would have yielded a first down. Instead, Tebow rolled left and overthrew Eric Decker, who was also open, although deep in the middle of the field.
The other classic knock on Tebow is that his running ability, which was a game-changer in college, will be more of a dangerous liability in a league where everyone is two steps faster and 50 pounds heavier. On one run, a five-yard scramble up the middle in the fourth quarter, he decided not to slide and took hard hits from two linebackers as he went down. In the NFL, hits like those will eventually knock a quarterback out of a game. These punishing blows have a way of finding quarterbacks who can't rely on their arms to move the ball.
The highlight that got the most air time on TV after the game was a 12-yard quarterback keeper in the fourth quarter. Here we saw Tebow take the snap from shotgun and cut left, darting up the middle behind his left guard, then dart back to the right and accelerate in a straight line toward the end zone, tucking the ball and lowering his shoulders before landing in the end zone practically untouched. Not to rain on the parade, here, but the credit belonged to the line, who plowed a hole for Tebow the size of a milk wagon.
After the game, Tebow was positive. "I did some things well and some things I need to work on. I will go back and look at the film and see exactly where we are at." He said he felt rusty at first, but eventually gained rhythm on the field. "I just had to get in the flow of the game a little bit and get the feel for it. It's been a while."
On Monday, Broncos head coach John Fox said in a press conference that a final decision hadn't been made, and that he'd likely address the quarterback situation Tuesday.
If Tebow does become the starter, the Broncos have a week off to spend extra time working him into the game plan before taking on the winless Miami Dolphins. Let's hope their film projector works.

Packaged foods have gotten a bad, um, wrap. But, says Lisa Lillien, famed Hungry Girl blogger, Cooking Channel host and author of the new Hungry Girl Supermarket Survival, “they’ve come a long way. Some, like sugar snap peas and broccoli coleslaw, are just fresh foods bagged up!” Consider this your stay-slim shopping list.

With Halloween on my mind these days -- along with trying to figure out how to thwart my son's plan for the acquisition of mass quantities of candy -- I was amused to read a recent article about some interesting research conducted at the Monell Chemical Senses Center. The study concluded what many a mom could have told you – that children are hardwired from birth to have a preference for sugary treats.
Craving some chocolate? Check out Lot18 for hand-made, artisanal chocolates from Recchiuti Confections. As a special treat, enjoy $15 off your first order!
Now apparently teen palates start to become less sugar-happy and more "adult-like" late in adolescence, although try telling that to those of us with a sweet tooth. But this all got me wondering about how this pertains to our wine preferences. Does this mean that if we start off liking sweet wines we will eventually end up finding them too sugary later on? Do our childish preferences have us mistakenly convinced that liking sweet wines means we have beginner palates?
Part of the issue is that sweet wines have an undeserved bad rap. While there are some that go for extra sugar over quality and balance, there are lots of great (and delicious) examples out there. You can think of it as kindof like chocolate. There are lots of different kinds – from the simple to the complex and at all different levels of sweetness. But just as no one calls chocoholics immature, I don't think that liking sweet wines (I'm a big fan myself) means you are have an inexperienced palate. There are lots of different types of sweet wines – from those that are perfect for pairing with dinner to others that can be called dessert wines. And if you happen to think that because you drink dry wines you might not like sweet wines remember that wine isn't exclusive. There are lots of different styles to explore – from the very dry to the very sweet – and it is entirely possible to like each and every one.
For me it all comes down to the balance of the wine. My favorite sweet wines are those that typically have high levels of acidity. At the top of my list for grapes that make delicious and food-friendly sweet wines? Riesling and Chenin Blanc. These two grapes are known for having racy, crisp acidity and being very refreshing. I look for Rieslings from Germany labeled Kabinett or Sptlese – two types of wines that usually have some sweetness to them. I'm particularly fond of Rieslings from the Mosel and the Pfalz regions of Germany. These days you can also find slightly sweet Rieslings from Washington State, the Finger Lakes and Michigan. For Chenin Blanc, I turn to the Loire Valley in France and the Vouvray region in particular. I like to pair these types of wines with foods that have a bit of a kick to them, so I usually look for Thai, Indian or Vietnamese recipes for inspiration.
Other delicious examples of sweet wines fall more into the dessert wine category. Sauternes, a white wine considered one of the great sweet wines in the world, is from the Bordeaux region of France. Made from a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, it is a luscious wine with notes of honey, caramel, toast and spice and is capable of aging for decades thanks to its crisp acid and intense sweetness. Another sweet wine style to explore is Port, a fortified red wine made from a blend of traditional Portuguese grapes. There are a range of different styles within the Port family including Ruby Ports, Tawny Ports and Vintage Ports. While the first two are made for drinking as soon as you buy them, Vintage Ports are capable of extensive aging.
So if you too are stocking up on Halloween goodies this week, take a second to consider adding a grown-up treat just for you. Whether you are looking for a wine to pair with a meal or a dessert wine, there are sweet wines to fit each need. And remember that just because we might have a preference for overly sugary treats as children, it does not mean that a grown-up love of sweet wines equals an immature palate. In fact, one could argue that it is just the opposite. The ability to appreciate a balanced, well-made wine with some residual sugar is definitely more a treat for your palate than a trick.

San Francisco quarterback Alex Smith tries to get a pass off as Lions defensive ends Willie Young (79) and Lawrence Jackson (94) apply pressure in the third quarter Sunday at Ford Field in Detroit (Andrew Weber / US Presswire / October 16, 2011)
DETROIT -- Alex Smith's fourth-down, 6-yard pass to Delanie Walker gave San Francisco the go-ahead touchdown with 1:51 left, lifting the 49ers to a 25-19 win over the previously unbeaten Detroit Lions.
The play stood after video review.
Detroit had a chance to drive for a tying field goal or a go-ahead TD, but couldn't get a first down against a swarming defense that hit and confused quarterback Matthew Stafford from the start.
David Akers gave San Francisco (5-1) a six-point lead with 1:02 to go with a 37-yard field goal.
The Lions (5-1) had one last shot and came up woefully short. Then San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh and Detroit coach Jim Schwartz had to be separated on the field after the game. Harbaugh seemed to say something that fired up Schwartz, and they bumped into each other on the field.
Packers 24, Rams 3
GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdowns, including a career-long 93-yarder to Jordy Nelson, to lead unbeaten Green Bay.
Rodgers threw for 310 yards for the Packers (6-0), who came into the game as one of only two undefeated NFL teams. James Jones and Donald Driver also caught touchdowns from Rodgers, although the Packers offense hit a lull and didn't score in the second half.
Sam Bradford was 28 of 44 for 321 yards with an interception for the winless Rams (0-5), who were coming off their bye week.
Rams running back Steven Jackson had 18 carries for 96 yards.
Eagles 20, Redskins 13
LANDOVER, Md. -- Michael Vick threw for 237 yards and a touchdown, Kurt Coleman had three interceptions and Philadelphia snapped a four-game losing streak.
The Eagles raced to a 20-0 lead in the second quarter and held on to beat the Redskins for the 10th time in 12 tries at Washington.
LeSean McCoy rushed for 126 yards and a touchdown as Philadelphia improved to 2-4 and at last started to resemble -- at least somewhat -- the team picked to win the NFC East.
The Redskins dropped to 3-2.
Washington's Rex Grossman was benched after throwing his fourth interception late in the third quarter. He was replaced by John Beck, who made his first appearance since 2007 and led the Redskins' only touchdown drive.
Giants 27, Bills 24
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Ahmad Bradshaw ran for 104 yards and a career-best three touchdowns and Lawrence Tynes kicked a go-ahead 23-yard field goal with 1:32 remaining to give New York the victory.
Bradshaw scored on three 1-yard runs and had a 30-yard run to help set up Tynes' winner as the Giants (4-2) rebounded from a bad loss to Seattle last weekend by limiting the high-scoring Bills (4-2) to seven second-half points.

Just when you thought you had all of the Halloween safety tips down -- there's a new trend to worry about if you have tweens and teens.
Word on the street is that those always creative kids are now into Vodka-soaked gummy bears. There are web articles and youtube videos teaching kids how to infuse the candy with booze. Apparently, these gummies really soak up the alcohol and it's odorless, which makes it easier to fool parents (teachers, police, etc) who don't know about the trend.
So let's review the Halloween safety list one more time. Just like we don't want to be caught with our pants down, we don't want to be out of the loop when it comes to our kids and their safety.
1. Set a curfew for around 8PM on the night of Halloween... 11PM if it's the weekend -- nothing good happens after that!
Related: The Truth About Kids and Alcohol
2. If your teens trick-or-treat, make sure they take flashlights and that you know where they'll be knocking on doors. Set a cut-off time of 8pm for trick-or-treating-- it's simply rude for a group of Snookis and vampires to appear after that time.
3. If your teens are attending a Halloween party, make sure a parent will be there to supervise.
4. Remind your teens not to enter the home of a stranger who may be wanting to offer some unsavory tricks or treats.
Related: 7 Questions You Should NEVER Ask Your Teen/Tween
5. Make sure your teens know that you have a strict anti-drinking policy 365-days-a-year.. and that includes Halloween.
AND NOW:
6. Watch what they do with those gummy bears. This is a brand new tip just in time for Halloween 2011.
I can hardly wait for the creativity that 2012 offers. Have a happy and safe Halloween!

From the North
New Bern, NC
This huge storm cell moved in over the Neuse River from the North at the same time an equally ominous, but very different looking one moved in from the Southeast. I love how low the lower lying clouds seem to be sitting above the water's surface, and the high, white clouds seem to be rushing away from the incoming storm! It was a very great sight to see.
